Special/The craft

Made tile by tile, by hand.

The story behind the Special collection, and how a quotation works.

An artisan setting mother-of-pearl by hand
Mother-of-pearl & khatam

An Egyptian craft, kept alive.

Mother-of-pearl inlay has been made in Egyptian workshops for generations. Shell is cut into tiny tiles, set one by one into a wooden body, then sanded and polished until it glows with pink, green and blue light. Khatam is its sister craft: slivers of wood, bone and shell assembled into geometric patterns so fine they look printed.

Because every tile is natural shell set by hand, no two pieces are ever identical. The piece you receive will differ slightly from the photo — that is the mark of the hand that made it.

By request

Why there is no price tag

Each request is different — one box for a birthday, or forty for a company's Eid gifts. So instead of a fixed price, every request receives its own quotation for the pieces, the quantities and the delivery.
